Medical Terminology
Whether you are taking this course as a beginning
student, or are using this course as a review, you must know that knowledge of medical
terminology is critical for everyone entering any medical profession.
This course is uniquely designed for you using a
programmed learning and word-building system approach as well as organization by body
systems and medical topics.
By studying this system you will learn hundreds of medical terms very quickly. You will
also be able to apply what you have learned as you encounter new terms you have never
heard before. Emphasis will be placed on spelling, defining, using, and pronouncing
medical terms correctly as well as learning acceptable medical abbreviations.
Programmed Learning is a method of learning that presents you with information, allows you
to work at your own speed, and then gives you immediate feedback. The information is
presented in short easy to understand "Frames". This creates a more efficient
way to learn, as you are clear about the focus of study.
What is the Word-Building System? Learning medical terminology using a word-building
system means that instead of memorizing lists of vocabulary, you are systematically
introduced to word parts, shown how they are put together to form words, and how to
analyze a word for it's correct usage and meaning. This course is uniquely designed for
you using a programmed learning and word-building system approach as well as organization
by body systems and medical topics.

Good communication skills in a medical setting include
being able to listen to and recognize medical information as it is spoken to us and to
correctly use and pronounce medical terms when speaking to others. A transcriptionist is
asked to listen to medical reports, recognize the terms and type them. Practicing
pronunciation by listening to the CD that accompanies the text, Medical Terminology Made
Easy 3rd Edition, then saying the terms aloud, or, reading the terms in the text and
saying them aloud improves our professional communication. This will be another important
part of this course.
