NURSE AIDE TRAINING PROGRAM

COURSE SYLLABUS

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The nurse aide training program is an organized program that combines theory, skills labs, and clinical experience designed to train students to become competent entry level care providers and prepare them to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) exam upon successful completion. Nurse instructors who have been certified by Colorado Health Care Association (CHCA) Train the Trainer Program will present course content. The program is divided into 19 units.

    • Care of Residents with Alzheimer’s Disease
    • Pain management, Sleep, and Comfort

 

Clinical Experience

Students will receive JCAHO and OSHA orientation at clinical facility, HIPPA training and complete the student affiliation checklist. Students will perform 24 hours of resident care under the supervision of Accent clinical instructors, and will be paired with a designated CNA as a resource person.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon Successful completion of this course students will be prepared to:
Demonstrate through written, oral, and skills labs an understanding of the role of the nurse aide as it pertains to activities of daily living, basic nursing skills, and restorative services. Passing grade – 75%.
Demonstrate through written, oral, and skills labs an understanding of the role of the nurse aide as it pertains to resident’s emotional and mental health needs, spiritual and cultural needs, communication, individual rights, and legal and ethical behavior of the CNA. Passing grade – 75%.
Perform the 24 skills required of a CNA and receive a "pass" grade.
Utilize the clinical experience in a long-term care facility to gain insight into the role of the CNA and gain proficiency in the 24 skills.
Become a candidate to take the NNAAP exam upon successful completion of the Accent Learning Systems Nurse Aide Program.
